Pedestrian hit by car at UNCC entrance

Published Feb. 22, 2011 at 3:11 p.m.
A woman who was crossing N.C. 49 at the entrance of the UNC Charlotte campus was struck by a car and injured Tuesday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

The incident was reported about 8:20 a.m. on University City Boulevard and Broadrick Boulevard. According to police, the crash happened in the left southbound lane of N.C. 49, near the traffic signal.

The woman was taken by Medic to a hospital, but it is unclear how badly she was hurt. It also is not clear if the victim was a UNCC student, but that intersection is commonly used by students walking to campus from apartments across from the school.

The car, a silver Honda, suffered significant damage on the front end. Police are still investigating the incident.
